FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS TO YIN YOGA TEACHER TRAINING
Q1- How do I become a yin yoga teacher?
Yin yoga is a very specific type of yoga and done very differently than other styles of yoga. A good training is necessary, especially as there is still a lot of misconception about yin yoga out there. You also will find many very short yin yoga training courses, but we recommend at least a 100 hr training affiliated with a Yoga Alliance school to cover the main principles and poses.
Q2- How long should you practice yoga before teacher training?
Especially the yin yoga practice is suitable for everyone at any point in time. You do not need any special physical abilities or a specific preparation to start your teacher training. However, a teacher training is an intense immersion in the subject, so you need to be sure it is the right thing for you. Commitment, dedication, an open mind and the willingness to learn are a must for a successful training experience.
Q3- What is the difference between yoga instructor and yoga teacher?
A lot of the time the terms are used interchangeably. A yoga instructor gives instruction for the yoga postures while demonstrating them at the front of the yoga class. A yoga teacher may spend time to give more personalized feedback to the students. An instructor focuses on giving yoga instruction for each asana, whereas a good yoga teacher helps students find the yoga postures in a way that works for their yoga practice.
Q4- How long is 200 hour yoga teacher training?
The 200 hours can be sometimes packed into very intense short full time 10 hours a day training, and part of the course can be studied online so you will be able to find courses which last only three weeks. Other courses are spread over a long period of time with just a few hours in regular frequency, you can also find courses which can take one to two years.
Q5- Is 200 hour yoga training enough?
It depends of course a lot on personal talent and previous experience, but within the Yoga Alliance system after the successful completion of a general 200-hour foundational certification course you are eligible to register as a certified yoga teacher. Different organizations have their own certification systems, in India, there are even university certifications as well.
Q6- Can I teach yoga without being certified?
The short answer is yes, if you know what you are doing. But of course this depends on the laws and regulations of the country you are in. However, a certification can help to be recognized and respected as a yoga teacher. Many yoga studios and insurance companies do expect a Yoga Alliance certificate from a teacher and it is highly recommended and international standard and to have a 200 hr Yoga Alliance certification.
Q7- What should I do after 200 hours of YTT?
- Register yourself as a teacher with Yoga Alliance.
- Start teaching right away, don’t allow time to get in the way and lose touch.
- Practice, practice, practice.
- Trust in the magic of new beginnings and dare to put yourself and your offering out there.
- Once you feel confident teaching you can look into Continuing Education Programs to specialize and deepen your knowledge.
- Follow up with the next level: a 300 hours certification course.
Q8- What is the difference between YTT and RYT?
YTT is a common casual short form of Yoga Teacher Training. Also exchangeably TTC, Teacher Training Course is often used. RYT on the other hand is a term from Yoga Alliance for Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance. Only a teacher who studied with a registered school and is maintaining a membership with Yoga Alliance can use this term.
