1 – Don’t Learn by Yourself. No matter how easy you think it looks, never, ever approach surfing by yourself. Not one wave is the same, so your playground is constantly changing. Elements such as wind, tides and swells are affecting the waves you surf differently every day. It can be very challenging some days less, but it is a learning process and once you catch your first wave, that’s it, you’re hooked! Having a great instructor by your side is fundamental to get the attempt of your first surfing adventure out in the ocean and avoid injuring yourself and others.

2 – Surf Beginners Waves. Appropriate beach and waves are crucial for beginning surfers to be successful. Goa offers the perfect waves in a safe environment to learn to surf and to get improving in a smooth way as long as you learn how to navigate the sweet Arabian Sea waves! Tackle small waves before you attempt larger ones. Even though you may feel ready, unless your intructor says you are ready, you may actually be not! Never under estimating the power of the ocean waves and upgrading your surfing skills is also a matter of the right amount of dedication.

3 – Have a Fun-mindset. No matter what you do and where you are, if you are not having fun, it is not worth it! Always remember the awesome quote by Phil Edwards: “The best surfer out there is the one having the most fun.” No matter if you are a boy, a girl and how experienced you are, forget about how it should be and embark yourself to the ultimate surfing adventure in Goa this season!

Lastly, getting to practice yoga before surfing is optimal. Gentle morning yoga is definitely the best way of waking up the body, especially to bring flexibility in the spine and get ready to paddle, paddle, paddle.. before surfing!
If you are new to surfing, you might not know that every spot has its own “vibe”. Some spots are more “localized” than others. This means some local surfers are more open than others. These surfers might have been surfing these waves for years, since they are kids. When you get to a surf spot, take time to feel the vibe and respect the local surf community.
